Community guidelines are created to ensure that a platform is a safe space where people can express themselves to an extent. However, TikTok does not follow its own guidelines. Whenever a video violates their guidelines, they claim that they will specify which rule is broken and the video will be removed. Nevertheless, some Black creators have complained about having their content removed without adequate explanation
“Anything Black-related is inappropriate content,” said popular Black influencer Ziggi. Due to the combination of the words “Black” and “audience,” the app's algorithm mistakenly flagged Tyler’s phrases, assuming “audience” is the word “die.”
What's funny is that TikTok removes appropriate content while leaving the inappropriate ones alone. TikTok has previously been scrutinised for hosting racist content. There has been a disturbing number of videos heaving discriminative content on ethnicity, sexual orientation, religion, and immigration status.
